Highlights of the Rhode Island ICCFS Tournament

19 of the 20 students from New Jersey and Rhode Island representing three ICC Chapters (RI HOPE, CREW, & Ephatha)

We are thankful to God for the opportunity to host a tournament in Coventry, Rhode Island. Five families joined us from New Jersey. We were able to carry out the Mission of the ICC Forensics Society: to provide opportunities for training members to become character-driven communicators and leaders with excellent analytical and oratorical skills in order to impact culture.

We could not have run this event without the behind the scenes planning efforts of the ICC Global Leadership team lead by ICCFS International Director, Yvonne Hagood. She also provided all the team training and tournament oversight. Then there was the gracious help of a talented group of volunteers who came up from New Jersey. Together they put in an estimated 1000 man hours. They led teams in Check-in, Ballot Administration, Ballot Return, Evaluator Orientation, Tab and Monitoring Radio Broadcast. The Northeast Area team was made up of six ICC adult members: An & Dominique Normand, Au & Eunice Au, Karissa Leong, Kate Wood and Vickie Daudelin. Six local Chapter parents also joined the team bringing energy and talent to the event. I was assisted by Corinna Lotter, Deanna Chavez, Evelina Shippee, Marisabel Dailey and Jessica Everette.

We were also blessed by the valuable contributions of ICC Guild Inductees who are young people who are in various stages of their leadership training. Together they set up all the rooms and facilitated Round Table.

Daniel Normand and Anna Leong (members of the ICC ASLC) did an excellent job as Masters of Ceremony for the Showcase. Elise Normand and Keri Wood provided all the media.

The "Meet and Mingle" reception was well attended. Chapter parents and community evaluators engaged in conversation with An Normand, Megan Leong and Keri Wood about the mission and vision of ICC.

The great food was generously provided by Chipotle of Warwick and Borrelli’s Pastry Shop of Coventry. Coffee was donated by Dunkin Donuts of North Kingstown. We had also invited all of our benevolent supporters of the RI HOPE Scholarship Fund. We are grateful to the members of The Coventry West Greenwich Elks Lodge who underwrote the expense of renting the school building. Mr. Donald Swanson, the Exalted Ruler of the Lodge, was in attendance at the ICC Showcase to received a Certificate of Appreciation.

Other RI HOPE supporters are: Mr. and Mrs. Martin Snyder of CIC USA, Mr. and Mrs.Jonathan Heffer of PTL Equipment, Mr. and Mrs. John Seraichyk of Browning and Associates, and Mr. Michael Sepe of Electro Standards Laboratories.

In ICC, we often quote an African Proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to far, go together.” Our RI HOPE students will go far because of your charitable gifts.

Visit the RI HOPE Scholarship Fund page for more information about making tax-deductible donations that will enable students to travel to the International Championship Tournament at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN
