When it comes to starting off or learning something new, having a mentor to help and guide you is important and assuring. Now mentoring may sound easy, but it can get more complicated than it sounds. In RI HOPE, which is a Chapter of the Institute for Cultural Communicators (ICC), I can remember a few mentors that helped me walk through my Young Speakers Guild phases. They were all really encouraging and good examples.
To me, Jesus Christ is the perfect example of a mentor. He taught his disciples how to live a holy life but more importantly how to teach others about him. In Proverbs 22:6 it says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” So according to this verse, mentoring is a good thing. It’s training up someone in a good way so that when they are older that thing that you taught them will stay with them. That’s what ICC is all about! It’s training and guiding students to ultimately shine through Jesus in the midst of this dark world.
