I’ve been in ICC for about 6 years now. I serve as a student leader in my chapter and I love working with YSG students! Last year in the spring, I was able to undertake and complete the peacemaking intro., which I extremely enjoyed. One thing that stood out to me was how they made you look at peace. No kidding right?
Well, before I had taken this course, I looked at peace in a way that was obvious: a still meadow or peaceful stream. But as I got more into the content of it, I realized that the real challenge was to try to find peace in the midst of turmoil or confusion.
For me at first, this was hard because my brain automatically looked at the negative (which to me, seemed to prevail) rather than the positive. But over time and thanks to the consistency of the course, my brain was able to adapt to the change and see the good in it even with the distractions around me.
The main thing that I learned was to look for peace more and more even in demanding situations like when your reciting a speech or trying to get a last minute assignment done. Also learning to look for Christ in those situations was essential for me because he is the one who truly gives us peace. And not only peace of mind, but also peace at heart.
