The Beginning Public Speaking Chant is a fun way for all of us to remember the “How” of speaking to a group. The “Why” determines what type of speech to use. For example:
I would use a persuasive speech if I wanted to influence you in some way.
An informative speech provides information that I want you to know
When I stand up to tell you a Bible story with all the voices and posturing to take on the various characters’ unique personalities then I am providing an interpretive speech.
Mu favorite type of speech is Impromptu. It is the most like normal conversation in that there is less preparation time before hand.
Let’s be honest, I love the games, friends, snacks, and fun. While that motivates me to come, that is not all of what ICC is about.
At ICC I learn how to speak well, and before speaking well I must wrestle with thinking well. For example, I have a hard time writing this speech. It was pretty difficult. I got help writing it but I still put in a lot of my own effort which is what helps me to learn and grow.
Learning, growing and sharing with others is what I learned at ICC.
