We aren’t rest filled people who become occasionally restless;
we are restless people who sometimes find rest.
- Henri Nouwen
Our family just experienced Tropical Storm Isaias. The storm hit on Tuesday afternoon with high winds and torrential rain. We lost power at the height of the tempest. John went outside to inspect the damages and look for fallen trees in the neighborhood. Even though the damages where minimum, the power company was predicting an entire week without electricity in our rural community.
I was overjoyed when our power came back after 40 hours. My happiness was interrupted when I heard the loud rumbling of several generators in the neighborhood. I realized that my neighbors were unaware.
As I road my bike from house to house to deliver the message, "Good news: the power is restored," I mused about the gospel and how it is "GOOD NEWS!". Similar to my neighbors, we often settle for noisy generators that give us just enough energy for the bare minimum to function. In reality, we as Christians can tap into the power of the Creator of the heavens and the earth (Isaiah 42:1-13 also read Ephesians 3:14-21).
We are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:13).
Today I read Mary Gunther's invitation to take her online course: "3 Ways to More Time and Energy" on her website. I look forward to gathering with like minded Christians who are seeking to to replenish their body, mind, and soul as we consider how to care for ourselves in order to grow healthier as we seek to serve our families and community for God's glory.
Please read her invitation and pray about joining me.
